Liberal Place:Seattle, WA

Another great West Coast city. Famous for it efforts on conserving the environment, recycling isn't a buzzword here, it's just a part of life. The Seattle area is also a high tech dynamo (as is Silicon Valley, located near San Francisco), showing once again that liberalism and growth go hand in hand.

Seattle is a great, liberal, compassionate, caring city, mainly due to
the leadership of our wonderful mayor, Norm Rice, who cares about people
and their problems. This is a city that truly cares about the homeless,
at-risk kids, anyone who is down and out, or has hit hard times.
Unfortunately, Mayor Rice has said he will not serve another term, so
the citizens of Seattle are going to have to work to be sure his legacy
is carried on.

Seattle is definitely one of the more liberal big cities in the country,
which is not only a function of its generally well-educated, literate
population, but also of its history as a center of labor activism and
unrest. Although I would rather live in a liberal city such as Seattle,
I would have to say that it is a little like living in a bubble in that
one is often unaware of the significant trends that are developing
elsewhere in the political mainstream. Also, the two main newspapers
here, although they can be counted on to take somewhat liberal editorial
stances, are completely unspectacular in their news content.

Seattle IS a liberal city but the second you leave the city
borders it's redneck central. Pickup trucks galore, gun stores aplenty
and some of the dullest architecture you'll find in this here United
States. The working wages are decidingly unliberal and not much
represented by unions. If you're not an established technocrat you
better know how to make espresso cuz the job situation is limited even
with a healthy economy. The wages for a regular job is low compared to
my home state of New Jersey.

Seattle is easily the best city in the United States. It is a haven for
liberals, with democrats for a governor and mayor. There are gay bars
without vandalism, and Seattle is one of the four cities with laws
protecting transgenders. The area around is fabulous, and is definitely
not "redneck central". True, there are conservative communities, as in
all areas, but for the most part, it is a liberal metropolitan area.
Beyond political standing, it is a great city with low pollution, low
crime, and many major companies located in or nearby which have defined
out culter, e.g. Starbucks, Microsoft and Boeing.

the percentage of seattle's workforce that is reresented by labor unions
is one of the highest in the u.s. seattle's gay community is very visble
with an out lesbian on the city council and an out gay man in the state
legislture.

If liberalism is the politics of self-congratulations then, yes, Seattle is
a liberal city. No meeting is ever held where everyone present does not tell
everyone else how sensitive, how well-informed, and how decent they are...
and there are endless political meetings in Seattle.
Since this fulsome evalution confirms that s/he is the best possible person
living in the best possible city, nothing ever changes. Serious educational
reform (charter schools) and serious election reform (proportional
representation) are just two of the recent ideas shot down by the
"progressives" of Seattle.
Not that they are stingy: hundreds of millions in tax money will be spent
here over the next couple of years so that millionaire ball-players can play
in the finest sports palaces before their billionaire owners. Liberals here
so love welfare, they even give it to the rich.
Oh, well.
Add a city. Be sure to tell why you think this place is liberal-friendly.
