A city that counted Susan B. Anthony as a resident and had Martin Luther King do some of his divinity training in it has to be considered a liberal-friendly place. The mayor (an African-American) has begun to push for a more metropolitan government, much to the dismay of the republican county executive. The city hosts an annual Gay and Lesbian film festival, and has a strong activist background. When the Ryder Cup golf toyrnament came to town, a group of activist groups staged the "Reality Cup", a series of event to draw attention to economic inequality. Recently a student at one of the colleges had homophobic graffity scrawled on his door, a few days later 200 students staged a vigil. This is one city I am proud to call home (At least for 9 months out of the year).

You forgot about the law passed by the top-free seven that allows women to go topless in Rochester. Unfortunately our attitudes about nudity need to change before women can comfortably take advantage of that law. Still, it amazes me that it passed and makes me feel good that there are some pretty serious activists in Kodak-town.

The home of the Corpus Christi church and it's rebellion against the vatican .

A Liberal pastor : Father Jim Callan was removed from his post in August because he had allowed women to participate in priestly roles , blessed gay unions , and allowed those with non-catholic religious beliefs to recieve holy communion.

The congregation has since been waging a battle for his reinstatement . It has been featured on Dateline NBC MSMBC and several other national programs. People continue to flock to the church by the thousands and continue to demand his reinstatement.

Besides his liberal stance on social issues , Callan has been a leader in the fight against poverty in Rochester . His many outreach programs including those for drug addicts have transformed many lives for the better. The people of Rochester want him back.
