The Utne Reader ranked New Haven as the best place in Connecticut to live. As one who grew up in suburban CT, I could not agree more. New Haven is the center of culture and all that is good in this state. The people here are open-minded, friendly and progressive. Last year, New Haven passed a Living Wage ordinance and a citizen led coalition is now trying to get the surrounding suburbs to do the same. The city is gay-friendly and sports a Gay and Lesbian Community Center. As for politics, only Democrats need apply here. We haven't seen a Republican mayor since 1954 and 28 of 30 alderpeople are Dems. (Note, however, that New Haven has one of the few remaining semi-functioning Democratic machines, so this must be taken with a grain of salt.) New Haven is also home to Yale, which, while some may think it a bastion of elitisim, also happens to be a very liberal campus. Efforts to help the poor include the New Haven Homeless Resource Center, New Haven Cares vouchers (based on the Berekley system), We The People (a group of homeless activists) and many others. Unlike most of this state, New Haven is home to real people who lead real lives. Come and check it out.

......Furthermore, New Haven is the home of Tom Tomorrow!
