Liberal Place: Dayton, OHThese are comments on Dayton, submitted by other Turn Left visitors. They do not necessarily represent the opinion of the webmaster. You may add a comment on Dayton if you want. I live in Dayton Ohio and consider it a fairly gay-friendly city. Mary
Wiseman was elected to city council last year and is the first
openly-lesbian elected official in Ohio. Sure some hateful people spread
gay agenda postcards about her in the primary but the paper condemned that
and the election in the fall was focused on issues, not her sexual
orientation.
The neighborhood I live in, Oregon Historic District, near downtown, is friendly and diverse. And the church I go to, Cross Creek Community Church, is diverse, with an openly gay male pastor and a straight female pastor and a congregation with families with kids and gay and straight and young and old people.
As for being liberal friendly in general, Dayton voted for Clinton in both
recent presidential elections and has four Democrats on the city council
(plus one Republican, the mayor). Dayton's a liberal bastion surrounded by
Republican Montgomery County.
