Former Mayor Smart was booed off the Donahue show awhile back when he appeared there to talk about the city's then-proposed sexual orientation clause in the human rights ordinance. It was voted down 6-1. Bloomington is the state HQ of the Kristian Koalition and the very huge and militant Eastview Christian Church is located there. Recently the church held a protest when Marylin Manson (who is against Christianity) performed a concert in a public arena. They protested the arena's decision to sign them, even though Eastview was granted use of the very same arena for their Easter service a week before the concert. The local newspaper, the Pantagraph, is constantly filled with hateful and militant letters to the editor against gays, abortion, evolution, and just about everything else.
