People Since we live in a democracy, the best way for gays and lesbians to make their voices heard is to vote. The people listed on this page have gone one step further, by running for and winning elected office. There are over 100 openly gay people serving in elected office throughout America, in offices ranging from city halls to the halls of Congress.
